I like to keep clean, even though I do wash my hair with bicarbonate of soda which I accept is not everyone's idea of normal, but I also don't want to spend a fortune on either everyday essentials or beauty luxuries. I also don't want to use lots of chemicals. So, I have started to make my own...everything. Cleanser, freshener, moisturiser, deodorant, toothpaste... pretty much most things. Above, from left to right, we have:Organic Liquid Castille soap, cleanser, toothpaste and facial oil (moisturiser).
The organic liquid castille soap is the base for a few of the products and can also be used for household cleaning or just on its own as a neutral body/hand soap.
The cleanser contains 2tbsps liquid castille soap and 1 cup strong cold chamomile tea and a few drops of neroli essential oil. Next time I make it I'll use an aromatic water in place of the tea as I don't really need the astringency of the tea although stick with it if you have oily skin. It is quite watery and does not really foam but leaves my skin squeaky clean and not dry.
The toothpaste is simply liquid castille soap with some peppermint essential oil added. I think I only added 10 drops, which might sound quite a lot but I only use 2 drops of the toothpaste at a time. Not massively foamy and it lacks the sweetness of shop bought toothpaste but you'll get used to it.
The facial oil is luxurious. I only use a few drops at a time and gently pat it on rather than rubbing it in. It gets absorbed really quickly and doesn't leave an oily sheen. The ingredients? Jojoba oil and a few drops of neroli essential oil. That's it!
All I need to add now is that if you don't have a shop near you which sells all these base ingredients then you can get them all at The Soap Kitchen. They also sell the containers as well as the oils and soap.
